In the Wifi device industry, the 2wire is known as the famous brand with the highest performing product. This router model is not an exception that is incredibly fast and strong for its price range. However, the 2wire setup process of this device may give you a headache.
It is the reason why I’m here. This article will give you a complete guide to this process. Let’s check it.
Connect to your 2wire router
To set in any electronic device, the first thing you need to do is connect to them, right? The 2wire router setup too!
Take it out the box
Simply, this device will come with several spare parts such as internet cable, the adapter, the Instruction book ( you should consider it in the note below). So, be careful to don’t miss anything.
Prepare for 2wire setup
Ensure your wire router is ready to connect with your computer. Typically, you will see the power jack beside antennas, which have the POWER word. Plug it in.
Next, looking for an internet source that is also a simple step. Take the internet cable for the box and plug it in the blue Ethernet port, which has the “Ethernet” word at the back of your device.
Then, plug another end of the cable into the computer Internet/LAN port. It can easily be found at the back of your computer because there is only one port that can fit it.
Next, pressing the power button in the back and wait for a few seconds to load. When all of the light in your device changes from blinking to solid, your router is totally ready for the connection.
Access to the 2wire router
Well done! Your router is ready to connect now. However, the 2wire router software setup can be a bit confusing if you have not much experience with it.
Connect to the network
The main step of this process is set on the access page of the 2wire router. So the second thing you need to do is connect to the network. You can use wifi to connect, but it will require the password. If you don’t have a wifi password, you can always connect by an ethernet cable.
So, make sure you have carefully done this step because you can only access the 2wire setup page with a strong connection.
Open your web browser and connect to access address
With each brand, they will provide a different access address. With the 2wire router, the access address is 192.168.1.254.
First, open your web browser, you can use any browser you want such as google chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Safari, etc.
Next, typing 192.168.1.254 in the address bar and press ENTER. The first connection can take longer loading time, you should wait until it completely loads. In case it didn’t work, recheck the network and connect it again.
Login to the 2wire setup page
When you finish loading in the 2wire setup page, the account window appears that requires the username and your password. Normally, you will receive them from the store where you buy or in the instruction book, find it.
If you missed all of them, you also follow this method below to get it.
Use the common username and password
With some brands, they use the same information for both usernames and passwords.
For most common models such as 1000s, 1000sw, etc., you can try the default login are as follows:
- Use ‘’NOLOGIN’’ for both username and password
- Or leave it blank in the username and type NOLOGIN for the password
Use the the RouterPasswords.com page to get the default account.
If all of the default logins didn’t work, you can try will RouterPasswords.com. Don’t worry, it is also a fairly simple step.
First, open the page by the link here .
Next, scrolling down and find out the ‘’select your router manufacturer’’. Here, select the right row that fits with your model and click ‘’find password’’.
When it has completely done, the username and password will be shown in the right column.
After filling the right login credentials, you will immediately be moved to the 2Wire’s configuration settings.
2Change the administrator account
Because anyone can easily get your default username and password in the RouterPasswords.com page, so you should change your administrator account in the first login. Surely you do not want your device to be hacked, right?
Select the Setting tab (in the top of page)-> Password then click on the ‘’Enable the password protection’’.
Of course, you can use the default system password if you think it is enough by selecting ‘’use the default system password’’ and the pass is’’admin’’.
However, I suggest you should change it by selecting ‘’create or edit a custom password’’.
In username and password blank, enter the account you want and Save.
Some note you should consider :
- Write down the account information in the box or memorable place
Because you don’t need to login to this page every time you connect, it can be easily forgotten. In my experience, you should write it down as soon as possible to avoid a login problem.
- Back up the config file
This method will be really useful when you want to find the account information.
Administration tab -> backup to file and wait for it saves all of your wifi settings in the individual file.
Create the name for your wifi
Although you can use the default name for your wifi, it looks more personal if you change it.
In the Home tab, click on the wireless. In the Lan tab, delete the current name and type your own name.
Access the wireless
This step is really important to activate the wireless connection. Please follow carefully and don’t miss any steps.
At the Home tab, click on the Wireless again, and select ‘’enabled’’ in the wireless security line. Typically, it is enabled by the default set up, but you should recheck it.
Next, in the authentication menu, scroll down and select the authentication type you want.
If you don’t use the password, pick the WEP-Open. On the contrary, you can choose WEP and WPA encryption. WEP means ‘’Wired Equivalent Privacy’’, and WPA means ‘’Wireless Protected Access’’.
In fact, both WEP and WPA can be used to protect your wireless connection. However, WPA is more secure than WEP because it is the second version of WEP.
Therefore, if you need strong security, WPA2 is an idea. Then, click on the ‘’set custom encryption key’’ and type your custom password in the blank. To finish the process, scroll down and Save at the end of the page.
Update the firmware
Well, you’re almost done with the 2wire setup. However, to avoid any software problem and run your device smoothly, you need to update the wifi firmware.
With most wifi router, you can update them on the access page. Nevertheless, 2wire firmware has a bit of a difference.
Check the updated version.
Send the email to the 2wire support that includes your model serial number. It will confirm your email response to whether there is an update available and send a suitable version.
If it doesn’t require the newest update, you can finish the setup here. On the contrary, you should update it on the http://gateway.2wire.net page.
Click on System tab-> Upgrade the System then click “ View available upgrades and options” on the right side of the System Summary Page. If it is available, you will receive the update link download.
Then carefully following the induction to set up the update. After that, it will ask if you’d like to reset the router. Agree and wait for your router completely reset.
*Serious note :
- The power light of the router blinks orange when you update the software. Do not turn the router off or unplug until you see it turns green.
- Your browser may ask whether to operate offline or try again during the upgrade process. Don’t answer the message before the upgrade is finished and wait for all of the router lights to be green. Click “Try Again.” when it finishes.
Congratulations, you have done all of the 2wire setup steps now. See, it is easier than you think if you are flowing this article above. The guide also gives you several notes to avoid the most common mistakes.
In addition, you should reset admin passwords regularly and backup the configuration file for the next login.
