Come on! Don’t be easily put off by these difficulties above. Getting a router setting is as easy as a piece of cake once you follow our lead. Let’s check it out!

How to Get to Router Settings in Browser

1. Make Sure Your Devices Are Connected To Router Via Ethernet Or Wireless Connection

Conventional way

First and foremost, you have to make sure that your device is connected to the router by following the two-connection principle: connect the router to the modem, while the modem is connected to a cable or Ethernet port on the wall.

Ethernet cable

But how do you know if you successfully connect them? Very simple, just check the front lights on either or both devices! If you do a good job of connection, they will be stable.

Just plug the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet receiver on the computer. You can immediately identify the Ethernet ports on the routers as they usually have the word “LAN” (Local Area Network) on them.

If you only use modems, look for the ports that have the words “Internet” or “WAN” on the top. As long as the router is on, once connected to this via Ethernet, your device will be able to get access to the Internet.

Connect via the wireless connection

Now, if you are not familiar with the Ethernet cables, then the wireless connection can come in handy for you. Let’s have a look!

First, look for the wifi icon located to the right of the toolbar on your screen. Once you have found it, click on that icon and you can see a list of wifi connections. Choose your connection and connect to the network. Make sure you remember the password in case any password is required.

The most convenient way to know your IP address is to use a command prompt ipconfig. Enter that command prompt. Then, you will see your IP address at IPv4. Don’t be put off as almost everyone can do this step without breaking a sweat.

However, some people may find that this way hard to follow. Do you have the same feeling as them? Do not panic, we have proposed another way for you! Just use the taskbar and click on Open Network and Sharing Center, then click your connection and choose Details.

Now, some IP addresses will show up in front of your eyes, and your task is to find the one with IPv4. That’s the IP address of your internet connection. Keep that for the second step.

If you are using a public connection, the easiest way to find the IP address is to search on websites such as https://www.whatismyip.com, or https://www.myip.com

2. Search the IP address of your router via Chrome, Internet explorer

Once you have known what your IP address is, then it’s time to search them on Google to access the router setting. You’ll be directed to a page called Home Gateway, where the sign-in procedure and steps to access the router setting take place.

However, you may run into some problems when searching your IP address via Google like page inaccessible, page non-existence, etc. Luckily, there are some ways to deal with this problem.

If there is only one router in your house, there are several things you should do to fix it. To begin with, you should check the performance of your router, whether it works stably or not.

After that, connect to your router, but not the wireless connection as it may lead to some serious mistakes. Search for the IP address behind the router and then switch off the router for about one minute before restarting it. Now, you can reaccess the Default Gateway and search your IP address.

However, if things are not as you expected like there are models around your connection, you can do the following steps to cope with this:

Step #1: First, press the key combination “Windows and R”. After that, click on “Open box” and fill in “cmd“, then push on the Enter with force.

Step #2: Enter “ipconfig” in the blank box. You will see the list of detailed items appear in front of your eyes. Now, it’s time to look for the Default Gateway part, from which you can determine what site you desire to log in to.

If 192.168.1.1 is already the default address, there’s a high chance that the error might still exist. Therefore, proceed as follows:

  • Get started the Router: Let’s turn off the device by pressing the power button. In case you don’t know where it is, it may often lie on the behind of the router. Be patient and count down 60 seconds, your router will be turned back on.
  • Activate network card: Do you see the network connection icon? Well, let’s Right-click on there. Can you see “Open Network And Sharing Center.”? If yes, select it. Then, click “Change Adapter Setting”. After finishing those steps above, click the network card and select Enable to activate the system if you see the option Disable error message.
  • Update Network Driver: By simultaneously pressing “Windows + R” key, you can open the Run window. After that, fill in the box with “devmgmt.msc” and click on the Enter. Continue clicking on the Adapters window to go into detail of the items, right-clicking, and selecting “Update Driver Software“. Then, click “Search Automatically For Updated Driver Software”. Now, you can relax for a couple of seconds in the meantime and do the similar for the remaining network cards later.

3. Get the username and password to access the router setting

Take a deep breath because you have gone through hardships! This step will be extremely easy to follow.

First, find the username and password, which located right behind the router. Each has a different password, but some have the same username, so you may not find it hard to remember them.

Another way to know what the username and password are is to search on the Internet. To do this, you must remember your router model number, search it and you will immediately see the username and password to access.

However, in some cases, your accessing process can not be accomplished because the password has been changed but you have no idea what it is. Do not worry about that, there are some methods you can use to turn it back.

Firstly, look for a tiny button called the Reset Button behind every router. It is much smaller than the power button, so try to look for it carefully. Once you have found it, press it for about 1 minute.

This action would help you reset all your settings with the router before, including your password. Lastly, sign up again with the password provided behind the model, and you can access the router setting.

4. Access Router Setting

Now, once you have a user ID and password, the process of accessing the router setting can not bewilder you anymore.

Tips to speed up wifi network on the router

A good router will greatly affect the speed of internet connections. However, not everyone has the conditions to invest in setting up the top router configuration for strong internet transmission speeds.

Don’t worry about this, here are some tips you can make use of to improve wifi network speed on your router.

Set automatic restart mode

There is no need for most new routers to be restarted on a frequent basis. However, if the internet connection has been running for a while, then restarting the router is essential if you want to improve the speed.

Some software like DD-WRT and Tomato can turn out to be helpful in this case as they can help you set the automatic restart mode for the router at a certain time.

It would be best if you set the start-up time in the evening when you’re sleeping, for the reason that there is no need to wait for the router to reload data.

Install a new antenna for the router

Thinking of getting rid of your old router because of the poor signal quality? No, stop that thought! You can completely improve the signal quality of the router by replacing the new antenna.

Alternatively, a wifi tuner or a wifi extender can also be your helpful sidekicks. These devices all have the function of amplifying signals, improving wifi for homes with dead zones or areas with signal attenuation.

Change channel width

Want to perfect the wifi speed of the device you are using? Why don’t you change the channel width? As wireless networks are spreading like wildfire nowadays, your area may be bombarded with too many wifi waves with the same range of routers, causing overlapping waves. This is the primary cause that results in the slow-down wifi speed.

The wider the channel width (large), the more likely it is interference on older protocol devices. So, changing channel width can save your neck in this case

Change the router placement

Considered as one of the best ways to improve wifi speed, changing the location of the router in the home or office accordingly is favored by many internet users, especially the unprofessional.

The router may be in conflict with devices at 2.4GHz or other 5GHz in the area where you live. Not to mention, construction materials also cause wireless network signal interference. So, the next time when you feel your router not working effectively, consider changing their location!

1. What is the difference between router modes and gateway mode?

The router mode and the gateway mode are two modes in which your router can operate. The Router mode disables the Network Address Translation (NAT) on the device and connects multiple networks and more than one router.

Whereas, gateway mode is the preferred mode when a network link is connected directly to the Internet. Once gateway mode is allowed, NAT operates, which ensures that a single IP address will be taken, and a complete set of LAN IP addresses will be shown.
