What is Amped Wifi? How does it work? Why should you use it? There are a multitude of ways to extend the range of wireless network in your home but using amped wifi still stands out a effective method that many people usually apply. In our tutorial, we will walk you through some steps that you can install wifi amplification on your own.
Amped Wifi – What is it?
If you are using wireless routers at home, there are some corners that the wireless signal is unable to reach. Wireless is called a short-range signal because it has a certain limit of coverage.
Normally, wireless signal is weakened when it penetrates concrete walls or other household objects. There are even some objects that wifi signals are unable to penetrate, which is why they can be weakened when you stand far from the router.
The range is reduced due to the fact that the materials of household furniture vary significantly. Here comes a powerful and portable device to help you solve the problem – amped wifi.
Amped wifi or wifi amplification is a device used to increase the volume of the wireless signal, hence extending its range. In this article, we will introduce you to to amped wifi devices in general.
The way amped wifi works is very simple. It extends the coverage of your wireless router’s signal. There are often two mini routers inside an amped wifi.
One router works as a signal receiver and the other works as the signal amplifier. The first router receives your normal wifi signal. After that, the other router amplifies the signal and sends the boosted signal out. Hence, your short-range wifi signal is converted to a long-range point of access.
Amped Wifi – Why Should You Use it?
If you are struggling with weak connections, there is a way to improve connectivity. That is to use amped wifi. The short-range signal produced by normal routers is able to travel as far as approximately 100 feet, provided that you set your router in a blank room.
However, when you have furniture in your home, or you just move around your home and still want to access wireless internet from anywhere, bad news is that the signal is often weakened if not blocked. When it comes to apartments with concrete walls, wifi signals often work less efficiently.
Those are why you should purchase amped wifi. Moreover, there are more advantages of this mini device that can surprise you.
-
Improved media playback
We guess that you are very bored of streaming buffering videos and songs. If you want to experience high quality media with increased smoothness, then you only need to improve the wifi coverage. Amped wifi will help you with that.

Whether you are in a deadzone, or elsewhere inside you home but the normal router signals cannot reach, use amped wifi. The signal is sent to all directions while the strength is still preserved.
It’s time to say goodbye to the nuisance of buffering media streaming.
-
Improved share-ability
More friends means more fun. Imagine yourself holding a party in your home and you invite a list of friends. What if they all connect to your household wireless network? Can your wireless network be shared to many devices at a time?
Amped wifi will help you answer the questions. Improved wifi coverage and strengthened wifi signal mean improved stability and reliable access point to many devices at a time.

Now you can see how useful amped wifi is. Let’s take it simple. Your network experience is significantly improved with the advent of this powerful device.
-
Wider coverage of wifi
You used to be out of the signal’s reach in certain spots inside or a little outside your home. In other words, you are concerned about dead zones.

Now the coverage is extended, which allows you to stand in those dead zones while still being able to use wifi. The places you were once unable to access the Internet have now become the access zones.
Amped Wifi – How to Install And Set Up?
Now the question is how to install and set up this mini device. Don’t worry as we will give you a step by step guide to get things done with ease.
Step 1: Find a power source.
This portable device has a standard two-round pin plug incorporated in the back of it. Therefore, there is no need to find an adapter for power supply.
Make sure you plug the device in. Check if it has received power by seeing if the lights in the front are turned on.
Make sure that you place the amped wifi no more than 6 feet far away from the router for the first setup. This is the range limit for the first time your device notices the router’s signal.
Step 2: The on-screen setup.
Locate your tablet, smartphone or computer and turn it on. Locate the wifi settings for your device after that.
On your computer that runs on MAC OS, navigate to the network icons, select Wifi-Repeater, or ‘Amped’, then click on it and select ‘connect’.
On your Window device, look for the small Internet icon at the bottom corner to the right of the screen. Then turn on your wifi and you can see the wifi called Wifi-Repeater, or ‘Amped’, then you also click on it and hit ‘connect’.
After you are connected, there will be a small pop-up if you are using a mobile phone. On your computer, navigate to a web browser, open it and scroll to the search bar. Here you will type 192.168.10.1 or http://192.168.10.1.
Make sure that you type every slash, dot, and digit number correctly. Otherwise, you will be directed to an error page. If both links don’t work, and the web menu fails to open, you should then type ‘myrepeater.net’ and press Enter again.
The setup wizard supports Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, and Safari. If you are using Firefox or any other internet browsers, please switch to one of the supported browsers instead and access the setup wizard again. You don’t need an internet connection to access the setup wizard. Instead, it is served from the amped wifi directly.
If you continue to have problems accessing the menu, disconnect from all wifi networks and attach an Ethernet cable from the network port from the range extender to your PC.
Open your web browser and try accessing 192.168.10.1 or http://192.168.10.1 again. If you still continues to fail to access, contact the phone number of your maintenance service.
When the amped wifi web page appears, you will tab ‘Scan” to begin. If there are multiple networks available around, your amped wifi will be able to detect and extend them. Please note that if you are using a mobile device, the setup wizard and the web page are slightly different from using a PC.
The home or office wireless router that you will be extending is referred to as your Home Network while the repeated network is referred to as your Extended Network.
Wait until the scanning is done to see the results. The range extender will detect both 2.4 and 5.0 GHz home networks and you will be able to see a list of them.
You can select either a single 2.4 GHz network or 5.0 GHz network, or you can select both if you have a dual-band capable router that you are extending. Check if the strength of the networks are 70% or above.
Some brands will mark signal strengths as Very Strong, Strong, Weak, Very Weak. However, you are supposed to choose the strength marked as Strong and Very Strong in this case.
If the signal strength of your home network is less than 70%, or marked as Poor or Very Poor, or your Home Network is not detected, the chance is the amped wifi is placed too far from your home or office router.
In this case, you should reposition the amped wifi closer to your home or office router and run the setup again. Once the network that you wish to extend shows the signal strength above 70% or marked as Strong or Very Strong, then you select your home network, click Next.
You will be prompted to enter the security key for the selected network. If your home network doesn’t require a security key, simply leave this field blank.
If you don’t know the security key for the network you are trying to extend, you will need to select another network to repeat.
After you have selected your wireless network and entered the security key, click Next.
The extended network settings page allows you to configure settings for your extended networks. The range extender provides 2 extended networks – a 2.4 and 5.0 GHz extended network. We recommend you don’t change anything of the default settings.
However, if you choose to, you may change the Extended Network ID. This name should not be the same as your home network. You may copy the network ID and the security settings from your home network by clicking Clone Settings.
The wizard will automatically use your home network ID and add the letters ‘RE’ at the end of the name so you can identify the extended network from your home network. The security key will be exactly the same as what you currently use for your home network.
Also, try a new user account if you wish, provided that it must include a new SSID and a new security key. The security key will need to be at least 8 characters or above.
Apply the settings by clicking Next. The range extender will now apply your settings in reboot. This process often takes up to 30 seconds, so be patient.
During the countdown, you must not leave or refresh the current page. After the countdown is done, you will need to disconnect from the current wifi name, turn off wifi and turn it on again before you reconnect your PC to the newly extended network.
You may connect to either the 2.4 or 5.0 GHz network. Go to your devices’ wifi settings and connect to your new extended network. The extended network wifi ID and security key can be found at the top of the page. Once you have connected, return to the web menu and press OK. There you have your wifi extended.
Amped Wifi – Some notes

Where to place wifi extender for maximum strength? What is the optimal distance to consider when placing your amped wifi?
A range extender should be placed in the location where it can fully obtain a strong signal from your home router, usually halfway between your home router and the dead zones.
If the range extender is placed in the location where it can only pick up poor signals from the home router, then the poor signal will be extended. As a consequence, the extended signal is slow and unstable.
Therefore, finding the right location is an essential part in the set up and the performance of your amped wifi.
We highly recommend the location where you can receive 4 to 5 bars when using your wireless laptop to connect to the wireless router. That is where your amped wifi can receive and extend strong router signal.
